Summer Camp JR Counselor

  • The Counselor plans, leads, and implements camp programs for campers.  They are responsible for developing recreational activities and enrichment opportunities for camp participants. They supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being of 3 separate age groups that will understand based on their individual age groups.  

  • Duties and responsibilities

  • Camp Counselors supervise children.

  • Plan and organize activities and enrichment outside of the Master Classes and Specials time frames.

  • Offer emotional support, greet new campers, and implement camp rules.

  • Develop long-term relationships among the Campers and Staff to help the growth of the program.

  • Manage all aspects of the camper’s daily activities.

  • Develop a strong rapport with Lead Counselor/Specials INstructors by responding to requests in a timely manner

  • Communicate effectively with Staff and parents' families in order to promote understanding and support of the program.

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years old.

  • Must have experience in volunteering or working in a child care setting.

  • Must have Certified CPR and First Aid training or be willing to attend training.

  • Pass background screening provided by the local police department or State of North Carolina Child Development

  • Possess a strong work ethic

  • Be punctual and have minimum absences

  • Be available for the functioning hours of the program 

  • Have dependable transportation

 

Physical requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files, paper, school supplies, books, etc. Will be required to engage in physical activity with the children, set up and break down rooms being used for preschool purposes. Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70 pounds.

Compensation

  • $300.00/month and pay date is the 15th of every month.  Note: if the 15th is on a Sunday, the pay will be available on the next Monday.  If the 15th falls on a Saturday, the payment will be on that Friday before.
