MLK Oratorical Competition Saturday, January 10, 2026 | 9:00 AM Students in grades 6-12 who live in the city limits of Rocky Mount or attend Nash County Public Schools can participate in the MLK Oratorical Competition during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in January. This website is specifically for the WTC youth ministry. The general information is applicable to any student who is eligible to participate in the competition. Some information has been added and adjusted specifically for our ministry programming to partner with the city. Support and workshops are offered once we know someone is taking part in the oratorical competition. Applications are due December 20th but it is recommended to let the next generation ministry know you are participating before then in order to obtain a coach and other support. PURPOSE: The purpose of the contest is to allow students the opportunity to express themselves verbally using Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s philosophy.
